Job summary

Would you like to join our exciting community team at a time of transformational change? The Middlesbrough Community Mental Health team is at the forefront of community transformation. We are looking for a dynamic assistant psychologist to join our team in delivering effective, safe and compassionate care. You will have an undergraduate qualification in psychology and previous experience working with people with complex mental health difficulties. We have experience developing previous assistant psychologists into the doctoral programme.

Psychologists & Psychological Therapists provide key leadership roles within the Trust. Main duties of the job

Working under supervision of experienced psychologists and clinical therapists within the team you will join in the assessment and treatment of people with complex mental health problems in group and individual sessions. You will receive regular clinical supervision from a clinical psychologist as well as regular management supervision and appraisal. There will be the opportunity to develop skills and experience in delivering training to the team and undertaking clinical audit and research projects.

  • Further post-graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice, youth work, work with offenders and/or research design and analysis.

Experience

  • Experience working as a psychology assistant (or equivalent)
  • Experience of working with people with mental ill health or learning disabilities (paid or voluntary)
  • Previous involvement in clinical audit, research or service evaluation.
  • Experience using statistical software packages (e.g. SPSS)
  • Experience of using psychometric assessments

Knowledge

  • An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental ill health or learning disabilities.
  • An understanding of the application of psychology to health care
  • Understanding of confidentiality
