Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and aspiring Trainee Forensic Psychologist - fixed term 24 months to join Tees Esk & Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust. You will be working in the Secure Outreach and Transition Team based at Roseberry Park Hospital, Middlesborough and at Lanchester Road, Durham as part of Health and Justice.
The posts will provide the opportunity under the required supervision to work towards the BPS Qualification in Forensic Psychology, Stage 2.
Applicants must ensure that prior to applying they have agreement from their current line manager that they can be released on a secondment basis.
In the event that permanent funding is secured for this post the successful applicant will be confirmed in post on a permanent basis.
Main duties of the job
Under the supervision of a qualified Psychologist, as you actively progress toward achieving registered status, you will be working directly with service users and staff to: enhance individual wellbeing and reduce the risk of re-offending. This will be achieved through conducting collaborative assessments and interventions with service users, conducting research, providing consultancy, and, delivering training for staff in accordance with Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) and British Psychological Society (BPS) guidelines.

The Secure Outreach and Transition Team provides care for both men and women who have a learning disability/learning difficulties and/or autism who exhibit a range of risk behaviors either to themselves or others. It prides itself on providing high quality individualised, comprehensive packages of care within guided by Trauma Informed Care principles to ensure compassionate psychological care and risk management. You will be working with those transitioning from secure hospital into the community and those living in the community.

- oFirst degree in Psychology, or an equivalent qualification, which confers eligibility for the Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society
- oAccredited MSc to allow eligibility for registration on the forensic qualification, as recognised by the BPS.

- oExperience of paid or voluntary work in a clinical, community or clinical-academic setting with exposure to client groups and service settings directly relevant to clinical psychology e.g. NHS or University settings, the voluntary sector or organisations affiliated to the NHS. A variety of pre- training roles of relevance include: Assistant Psychologist, Research Assistant, Graduate Primary Care Worker, Healthcare Assistant etc.
- oEngendered realistic expectations of the nature and demands of Forensic Psychology training
- oDeveloped an awareness of the contexts in which Forensic Psychology services are usually delivered.
- oDeveloped familiarisation with working practices in Criminal Justice, NHS and other statutory service settings
