Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for Registered Nurses to work permanent nights on a fixed term 6 month contract / secondment. Agreement from your current line manager is required if necessary.

This post is only open to those candidates who already have their NMC registration in place and have successfully completed the preceptorship programme. Please note: Newly qualified applicants or those due to qualify will be recruited via a separate process.

We are looking for Registered Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Nurses to join our Service and support Night Shifts. There are excellent training and leadership opportunities for all staff nurses with a structured development program and competencies which when achieved can enable you to progress to a B6 Clinical Lead within 2 years of being in the service.

Our service users are a diverse group of people with complex needs. We have 201 beds in the Secure Inpatient Service for patients with severe and enduring mental health problems and learning disabilities.

We are looking for post preceptorship nurses with excellent communication skills, problem solving and influence, able to work under pressure while remaining calm and maintaining quality.

Main duties of the job

Nightly roles would include the following :

Taking, receiving and complying comprehensive handovers and engaging in daily safety review discussions with the nursing team

To allocate tasks to the team, appropriate to their skill level and experience.

Contribute to nightly tasks and complete repots for Formulation/Recovery meetings/ Complex case meetings/ MAPPA/ Tribunals / Discharge planning/ CTO meetings, where you would contribute, document and arrange.

Provide updates and information to the wider MDT when necessary.

Contact and engagements with families/carers.

1:1 interaction with patients.

Administer medication.

Risk management in the least restrictive manner

Positive approach to managing violence and aggression

Mentor of students.

Supervision.

Well written documentation, care plans etc.

Secure Inpatient Services works collaboratively with patient's and their relatives and carers to provide needs led, patient centered approach, managing risk, developing a plan of care and recovery focused therapeutic interventions, working towards a safe planned recovery and rehabilitation.

We will support you by offering regular supervision, training opportunities and encourage your development and role within this evolving service on the delivery of Patient Centred Care, support for carers and evidence based practice.

The Secure Inpatient Service provides a specialist service for adults with a mental health disorder, learning disability or autism who exhibit behaviours of concern to others and to themselves. The service provides individualised, comprehensive packages of care within Medium and Low Secure inpatient settings and has links to High Secure services and prisons.

The ethos of the service is to work collaboratively with service users and carers in the completion of assessments, treatment, intervention planning and rehabilitation to enable a person-centered recovery-focused approach to care, meeting their needs in a holistic manner.
