Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen in Tees Esk and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV) to work as a Consultant Applied Psychologist in the Durham Tees Valley Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) Service. EIP is a specialist service commissioned to provide early identification, timely assessment and evidence-based treatment for people aged 14- 65 who are experiencing first episode psychosis or are at increased risk of first episode psychosis.

We are seeking a 0.8 WTE Consultant Applied Psychologist to take a leadership role in the multi-disciplinary service delivery and development. Competencies and significant experience in the delivery, supervision and leadership of evidence based psychological interventions for psychosis are essential.

The base will be with one of the four teams in the Durham Tees Valley.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver and supervise high quality evidence based psychological intervention
  • Professional leadership and development of the DTV Psychological Professions EIP workforce
  • Contribute to the collective leadership role in:
  1. Governance of the DTV service including performance in relation the EIP National Access & Waiting Time Standard
  2. Service development including collaboration across Specialties and Care Groups to continue the development of high quality care for our service users and their families
  • Involvement in research related to EIP service delivery
  • A role in the DTV senior Psychological Professions group

Job responsibilities

You will provide highly specialist psychological assessment of client's with severe and enduring conditions based on the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of data from a variety of sources.

You will be responsible for recognising the potential for or signs of client harm, abuse or neglect, including poor clinical practice, reporting all such concerns and taking all reasonable steps to protect the client. Responsible for identifying and reporting concerns regarding the safeguarding of children who may be at risk.

You will undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and provides highly specialist advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management and the high physical risks inherent in the client group.

You will formulate plans for highly specialist psychological therapy and/or management of clients mental health conditions based upon an appropriate conceptual framework and evidence-based practice. Negotiates the implementation of such plans with clients and/or their carers.

You will implement highly specialist psychological therapies for individual clients, carers, families and groups, adjusting and refining psychological formulations as required.

You will undertake highly skilled evaluations and makes decisions about treatment options.

You will provide expert psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other staff contributing directly to clients diagnosis, formulation and intervention plan.

You will facilitate decision-making by planning and mapping processes/interventions with members of the team or the wider Psychology Service to determine the most appropriate treatment modality or service for clients.

You will lead the multi-disciplinary care team in the development and implementation of multi-disciplinary care plans where appropriate. Monitors progress during the course of multidisciplinary interventions.You will provide expertise and advice to facilitate the effective and appropriate provision of psychological care by all members of the wider team across the designated locality.
