Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Adult Autism Team. This is the ideal time to become more involved in autism services; the profile and awareness of autism has increased significantly in recent years. Alongside this the Autism Team has undergone substantial change in the way that it works that will continue over the coming years, empowering mental health and learning disability teams to provide the right care at the right place and time for individuals with autism.
The Higher Assistant Psychologist will be based in the Adult Autism Team working across the Durham and Tees Valley area. The Autism Team are a friendly multidisciplinary team who have had specialist training and experience in understanding Autism Spectrum Disorders, the team includes; Nurses, Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists and an Occupational Therapist. The main roles of the team include undertaking diagnostic and impact assessments to inform future interventions and support. In addition the service also provides specialist consultation and advice to trust teams across these localities regarding autism. This is a fantastic role for an aspiring Assistant Psychologist to gain valuable clinical experience and an opportunity to be engaged in service development.
You must be motivated, possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work individually as well as part of a multi-disciplinary team by undertaking work with service users, carers, family members and other agencies.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will need to have experiences working with people with mental ill health, experience of delivering groups and a passion for involving service users in their care. The post holder will also need to be able to demonstrate emotional resilience and a capacity to maintain a compassionate approach even in stressful situations.
They are expected to demonstrate a flexible and adaptable approach, required with the advent of COVID-19 using technology and being innovative in their support of our patients and carers.
