We are seeking to appoint a committed, enthusiastic Applied Psychologist (Band 7)/ Highly Specialist Applied Psychologist (Band 8a) to the Paediatric Diabetes Service in County Durham and Darlington. If the successful applicant does not meet the criteria for Band 8a, they will be appointed at Band 7 and supported to develop the required experience and competencies to progress. Applications from Trainee Applied Psychologists in their final year of training are welcome.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-disciplinary team, consisting of Consultant Paediatricians, Specialist Nurses and Specialist Dietitians, working alongside another Highly Specialist Applied Psychologist and an Assistant Psychologist. The post holder will work within the wider Paediatric Psychology Service, consisting of a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Highly Specialist Applied Psychologists and Assistant Psychologists. The service provides regular placement opportunities for Trainee Psychologists.
The post holder will provide psychological expertise for children, young people and their families, leading on psychologically informed practice.
The role is diverse, with opportunities for assessment, formulation, 1-1, joint and group therapeutic work, supervision of others, as well as teaching and training. The post reflects a commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of children and young people, with service evaluation and improvement being integral.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be enthusiastic, motivated, and demonstrate a commitment to delivering excellent psychological care and evidence based practice. They will provide psychological expertise for children, young people and their families presenting with Diabetes, offering assessment, formulation and intervention around adjustment and coping as well as utilizing behavioural change techniques and interventions to promote treatment adherence. They will lead on psychologically informed care, via consultation, formulation and clinical supervision to team members as an important element of the role.
The post is across the County Durham and Darlington area, with clinics offered in Chester Le Street, Bishop Auckland and Darlington. Due to the nature of the role, it is essential applicants are able to travel independently and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. They will provide specialist psychological interventions and carry a caseload of individuals with varying needs. The successful candidate will be able to manage and assess risk and be confident in making clinical decisions independently. Training and developmental opportunities would be available for the post holder in order to further develop specialist skills and interests should these be required.
