Job summary
Tees Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust have a rare opening for an exceptional Consultant Psychologist to join us as Locality Lead for our Mental Health Services for Older People (MHSOP). The position is a substantive 8c post with MHSOP with the first 12 months covering maternity leave of the current post-holder.
We are seeking applications from experienced, highly motivated and dynamic psychologists to provide visible leadership and contribute to the strategic and transformational development of psychological services. You will be responsible for professional leadership of an established team of Applied Psychologists, Assistant Psychologists and Psychologists in Clinical Training working across Teesside MHSOP services. You will be embedded within vibrant leadership teams and well connected to other MHSOP locality leads as well as cross-specialty professional groups.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will join at a critical time of service reform, with a platform to influence projects of local and national interest. Community transformation brings new opportunities to ensure services are accessible and responsive to the needs of Older People, including new and improved ways of working across care pathways.
The post holder will have clinical, leadership and wider service development/research responsibilities. Clinically they will be based with our community services during the first 12months, but awareness and experience of acute services is desirable. They will be responsible for working as part of a multidisciplinary team and wider locality team to maintain safe, effective and compassionate care for patients, families and carers accessing MHSOP services and to promote cultures of quality improvement.

- The post holder will be committed to providing clinical and professional supervision, training and consultation.
- Clinically they will be expected to have specialist skills in neuropsychology, assessment, formulation and psychological therapy and experience of working with Older People living with complex psychological, physical and social difficulties.
- To work collectively with clinical and operational leaders to ensure effective delivery of psychology for specialty-specific services and policies.
- To be responsible for psychology resources available to Teesside MHSOP both in terms of psychological staff and psychological materials employed in the assessment and the treatment of patients.
- To be responsible for the effective organisation of psychological services across Teesside MHSOP and on-going evaluation of service policies and service delivery.
- In collaboration with the senior psychology team and key clinical and non-clinical stakeholders, to review psychological provision and to make changes as and when required.
- To influence and shape the Community Mental Health Transformation in Teesside and strategically guide developments to improve access to psychological therapies for Older People with Severe Mental Health problems.

- Post-graduate training (doctoral level equivalent) in clinical / counselling / forensic psychology (or its equivalent prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS
- Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice

- HCPC registration as a Practitioner Psychologist
- Evidence of continuing professional development
