Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Radiologist in Nuclear Medicine and General to complement our established and experienced Radiology team.

The successful candidate will be encouraged to pursue a subspecialist interest if desired and to develop the Nuclear Medicine service in partnership with the clinical teams. Most areas of interest can be accommodated. Duties of the post include participation in the general radiology out of hours service (currently 1:11), supported by overnight outsourcing (Nighthawk) from 8pm to 8am on weeknights and from 7pm to 10am at weekends. There is no requirement to perform interventionout of hours.

The post is tenable on a whole time (10 programmed activities) or part-time basis. Applicants unable to work full-time will be eligible for consideration for the post. Flexible job plans will be considered, including sessions at other centres to support research and expertise sharing opportunities.

Main duties of the job

Duties of the post include participation in the general radiology out of hours service (currently 1:11), supported by overnight outsourcing (Nighthawk) from 8pm to 8am on weeknights and from 7pm to 10am at weekends. There is no requirement to perform complex intervention (such as nephrostomy) out of hours.

A standard fully specified Trust workstation (operating via a VPN connection) will be provided for home use to support home working and insourcing.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Share in the provision of Nuclear Medicine and general radiology to the Trust. The successfully candidate will be encouraged to develop a subspecialist interest according to their own interests and expertise.

Take responsibility for the nuclear medicine service as an ARSAC license holder, developing the service with the clinical team.

Supply general radiology according to a negotiated job plan.

Timetabled commitments of the appointed candidate will cover both Hartlepool and North Tees sites, as do all newly appointed radiologists.

The appointee will be expected to share the aspirations of the other radiologists to provide a wide ranging, high quality imaging service to patients within the Trust.

General Radiology Duties:To provide a high quality reporting service for Nuclear Medicine, general CT, MRI and plain film examinations.

PET-CT, SPECT-CT and other radionuclide imaging reporting and administrative duties to support the service. Participation in MDT where appropriate.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute the Radiology Out of Hours service and the provision of emergency radiology during normal working hours.

  • Full GMC (London) registration and meets the requirements of the 'GMCs Good Medical Practice';
  • CCT in Radiology (or within 6 months from appointment on Specialist Register with GMC);
  • FRCR or equivalent
  • Trained at a minimum of 5 years as specialist registrar or equivalent;
  • Subspecialist training in Nuclear Radiology
  • In possession of (or willing to obtain) a Diagnostic ARSAC practioners license.

Desirable

  • Evidence of research involvement including publications in peer reviewed journals (e.g. prizes or scholarships).
  • Experience in clinical audit, research and teaching
