Job summary
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Endoscopist and Gastroenterologist - with an interest in lower GI pathology and bowel cancer screening. The successful applicant will contribute to the well respected Endoscopy and Gastroenterology services of the Trust in both in-patient and out-patient settings.
Main duties of the job
They will be working with the rest of the multi-professional Gastroenterology and Endoscopy team in a wide range of activities including ensuring timely management of cancer pathways. The candidate will work in endoscopy and out-patients and also contribute to general gastro care on the wards. The candidate will take part in the upper GI bleeding rota. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to develop specialist areas of interest allowing for subspecialisation within the Endoscopy/Gastroenterology departments as possible and desired.

Clinical
- Work alongside the existing endoscopy and gastroenterology team to develop the lower GI endoscopy and bowel cancer screening service.
- Contribution to the ongoing development and training of the endoscopy team
- Participant in the Gastroenterologist of the week rota when seasonal or other pressures require change in team job roles
- Active participant in the GI bleeding on call rota (currently 1:8.5)
- To support GI emergencies on the ward through provision of appropriate endoscopy and gastroenterology care where appropriate
- Support GI team service provision through vetting
- Take responsibility for own actions and decisions within the empowerment limits agreed by the lead consultant and Clinical lead for specialty and elective care
- Contribute to the development of services and staff, participating in educational and clinical supervision, teaching of medical undergraduate, doctors in training and endoscopy staff
- Contribute to the departmental audit and clinical governance
- Perform any other duties that are considered necessary for the efficient working of the service and which are mutually agreed to be relevant to the post as the pattern of service evolves.
- Required to cover for colleagues during normal periods of leave
- Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff
