Job summary
This is a locum consultant post commencing immediately within the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust.
The post holder will be involved in cross-site working between the University Hospital of Hartlepool and the University Hospital of North Tees in Stockton-On-Tees and provide general obstetric and gynaecological services and will be involved in the on-call rota with other colleagues, supported by junior medical staff.
Main duties of the job
The post requires general skills in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. In addition, there may be the opportunity to work within areas of special interest.
The job plan is for 10 PAs. The direct clinical care includes 3.5 PAs for predictable scheduled sessions for emergency work and unpredictable emergency on call work, with prospective cover. On occasions, planned activity may be altered to meet the needs of the service.
The current timetable follows a rolling 12-week template, as there is an established programme of consultant of the week for obstetrics and for gynaecology, which links to the on call activity. The weekly timetable will vary and will include regular clinics. The theatre sessions will include main theatre lists and day case lists. Clinic and theatre activity will be located at both hospital sites.

The Department delivers a minimum of 98 hours of consultant presence on site for emergency work. The daytime emergency cover for obstetrics & gynaecology involves a requirement for a consultant to be on-site between 8am and 10pm each day. Gynaecology emergency work is covered separately to obstetrics from 8am to 12pm Monday to Friday, by an on-site gynaecology team. On-call duties for this post will include working 1 in 6 weeks within a 12 week rota covering obstetrics and emergency gynaecology at the University Hospital of North Tees. Currently the department is undergoing a time of review so on-call templates may change.
The consultant-led delivery suite is housed at the University of North Tees, it contains 14 delivery rooms, 2 maternity theatres and a birthing pool. The team delivers approximately 2500 women per year. Inpatient and emergency gynaecology operates at the North Tees site but day case activity takes place on both sites. Outpatient gynaecology clinics and antenatal clinics take place on both sites. The department offers a wide range of subspecialty clinics including urogynaecology, infertility, abnormal uterine bleeding, post-menopausal bleeding, colposcopy and rapid access clinics for suspected malignancy. In-patient gynaecology services are co-located with female surgery in the Womens Health Unit. The unit runs a gynaecology emergency and early pregnancy assessment clinic. The colposcopy and outpatient hysteroscopy services provide full diagnostic and therapeutic services.

- Completed a recognised training programme in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
- Fully registered with the General Medical Council (London) with a licence to practice
- Entry on the GMC specialist register via: oCCT - proposed date must be within 6 months of interview, oCESR , oEuropean Community Rights
