Job summary
Applications are invited for a new substantive Colorectal Consultant to supplement our team of seventeen Consultant Surgeons who provide emergency and specialist elective general surgery services. The Consultant will help to develop the elective colorectal service provision across the whole of Teesside working collaboratively with colleagues in South Tees under the joint group structure of executives leading the Trusts.
North Tees is committed to evolving our robotic surgery program towards a 7day elective service. A new robotic theatre build is commencing imminently in order to increase theatre capacity to assist with this development. It is anticipated the successful applicant will contribute towards this service with the existing consultants. The new consultant will have the opportunity to visit and train in robotic surgery in a high volume unit in the UK if not currently trained in robotic surgery; the consultant would go through a structured training programme in robotic assisted surgery. Preference will be given to applicants who have successfully completed a robotic training Fellowship approved by Intuitive.

Due to the current skill mix within the consultant team preference will be given towards a candidate who can mostly contribute towards the delivery of the cancer service and the pelvic floor service.
The post will be offered for 10 PAs under the Terms and Conditions of Service for Consultants (England). Candidates should be fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice and on the Specialist Register (or within 6 months of obtaining their CCST). Although the post is tenable on a whole time basis, any applicant who, for personal reasons, is unable to work full-time, will be eligible to be considered for the post. Additional PA's will be allocated following job plan review and agreed between candidate and employer.
