Trainee Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner

Job summary

As a Trainee Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner you will be learning the skills and knowledge for the role of Advanced Neonatal Nurse practitioner working on the tier 1 medical rota in a busy Special Care Baby Unit.

The role will be a mixture of clinical shift working alongside ANNPs , academic work at university and completion of assignments portfolio's and exams.

The post will be as an apprenticeship with protected study hours per week and is supernumerary to facilitate the best learning experience. You will be allocated a ANNP mentor and a clinical supervisor to guide you through your training.

There will also be the opportunity to spend time in a level 3 NICU to develop skillsin intensive care procedures.

Main duties of the job

Attendance to programmed study sessions is essential, there will also be the opportunity to attend local/regional and national training events pertinent to your role.

You will shadow a qualified ANNP to observe the role and what it involves. You will also develop clinical skills in venepuncture , cannulation , lumbar puncture, UVC/UVS, intubation, resuscitation and chest drain insertion.

The ANNP role covers delivery suite , post natal ward , Transitional Care and post natal ward. ANNPs are the first responders to any neonatal emergencies .

The right candidate will have excellent communication skills working with midwifery, obstetric, paediatric , SCBU clinical teams and families of babies who require our care post delivery. They must be able to work well in a team and autonomously.
