Job summary

To be an enthusiastic and highly motivated member of the multidisciplinary team by using professional judgement and assuming responsibility and accountability for assessing, implementing and evaluating clinical care for patients to meet their needs in a safe, caring environment that promotes dignity, privacy and respect.

The post holder will be expected to develop knowledge and skills within the speciality and will assist in the management and organisation of nursing care within the Haematology Day Unit Responsive Care, whilst adhering to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

The post holder will supervise the work of Health Care Assistants and Support Workers and will also support the training and assessment of student nurses whilst demonstrating the Trust values and behaviours for nursing staff at all times.

The post holder has a duty of care to patients and is expected to comply fully with best practice standards and comply with trust policies for personal and patient safety and the prevention of healthcare associated infections. This is a highly dynamic department which focuses on the safe and high quality care of patients.

The role will be suited to dynamic and forward thinking nurses who thrive in a busy, fast-paced environment. This will be an excellent opportunity to gain knowledge and skills required to manage acutely ill patients within a highly skilled multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

To work along side haematology Day Unit staff, to facilitate assessment of newly diagnosed haematology patient. Deliver treatment i.e. chemotherapy, blood transfusion, venesection, iron infusion, immunoglobulin infusion and lots more with safety precaution and high competence. To provide expertise in cannulation and venepuncture. Triage patient with open access to the unit on active chemotherapy treatment. Be patients advocate and part of the patient cancer journey, make them home and welcome at all time. Ensuring infection control by doing meticulous handwashing before and after each patient contact using appropriate PPE.

  • Contribute to the provision of physical and psychological environment conducive to providing a good standard of nursing care.

  • Responsible in the assessment of care needs under the direction of an experienced Practitioner

  • Responsible for the planning, implementation and evaluation of care programmes under the direction of an experienced Practitioner
