Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join the ENT team at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trustas a ST1-ST2 Trust Doctor. The department consists of Eleven ENT consultants who cover all areas of ENTand is the only recognised head and neck cancer centre in Kent. The department and trust are expanding inconjunction with new Kent and Medway Medical School. The main department including a specialist ward, inpatients, outpatient, emergency care and the head & neck centre is based at the William Harvey Hospitalin Ashford while Kent and Canterbury hospital (KCH) provides a large number of outpatient clinics, day & 23-hour surgery and robotic head and neck surgery. We also provide a clinic at the Queen Elizabeth QueenMother (QEQM) Hospital in Margate.
Main duties of the job
As an ST1-ST2 you will be a key member of the ENT team at the William Harvey Hospital. The role is wellsupported by our middle grade doctors, specialist nurse practitioners and on-call consultants. As part of theteam responsibilities include on-call duties (ENT only during the day with Maxillofacial cross cover at night)and the management of acute emergencies and referrals to the department. At times you will be expectedto manage the ward and participate in the ENT emergency clinic which runs every morning with directsupervision and support from middle grade doctors and on-call consultants. There is ample time to attendtheatre and outpatient clinics to further your own learning and development in ENT and the traineefeedback and both ST1 and registrar level is always outstanding. The role will provide any aspiring traineeswith an interest in ENT a fantastic opportunity to develop their clinical skills and knowledge for future postsor training.
On-call responsibilities include taking calls from A&E's, GP's, minor injury centres and ward referralsincluding KCH and QEQM. These referrals need to be triaged into those that need immediate review andmanagement, which you will be expected to arrange and perform before organising on-going care orescalating as necessary. Alternatively, patients can be booked into the emergency clinic or on-site reviews inother hospitals co-ordinated with other members of the team.
