Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a new team member to join our busy Pharmacy Distribution team helping supply vital medication to all East Kent Hospitals NHS Trust sites, and also the local Pilgrims hospices. This role is based at Kent and Canterbury Hospital, and you will be part of a small team responsible for the picking and packing of medications ready for delivery to wards and clinics within East Kent Hospitals NHS Trust sites. This is a busy and demanding role but also a rewarding role, as you get to go home knowing that you have made an active difference to patient care on a daily basis.

You must be physically fit due to some heavy lifting requirements and be able to be on your feet all day.

We operate 2 shifts of 8:00am to 4:00pm and 9:30am to 5:30pm on a rota basis.

Warehouse experience would be helpful but not absolutely necessary as training will be given.

Main duties of the job

To provide pharmacy assistant support to the Pharmacy Distribution services within EKHUFT.

This position is specific to the Pharmacy Distribution team.

  1. To participate in the picking of medicines for issue to the wards and departments against orders signed by authorised staff, ensuring that all issues are recorded on the pharmacy stock control system.
  2. To participate in the delivery of medicines to the other Trust sites and contribute to the smooth operation of the automated distribution system.
  3. To work to agreed protocols and Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring that all work is subject to appropriate checking processes.
  4. Maintain a clean, tidy and orderly ward distribution area.
  5. To participate in the sorting of medicines returned from wards and departments, and in the disposal of expired and unusable stock according to procedure.
  6. To routinely fill up the stock shelves.
  7. To participate in routine daily stock checks of medicines within the pharmacy, including expiry date monitoring, following written Standard Operating Procedures.
  8. To assist in the receipt and stock rotation of medicines.
  9. To help deliver medicines to the wards by assisting portering staff as required.
  10. To assist within the stores team as and when required and appropriate to training.
  11. To undertake any other duties for the needs of the service as appropriate to the role.
