Job summary

The care group of Diagnostic, Cancer and Buckland was formed late in 2023 and the post-holder will work closely with the Diagnostic, Cancer and Buckland Care Group Associate Medical Director's, Associate Director of Nursing and Managing Director to deliver the care group responsibilities for patient safety, safety and governance in line with the Trust's strategic priorities and regulatory requirements

Act as designated lead for Patient Safety Incident Investigations thus supporting the PSIRF introduction plan and rollout for the care group and the Trust.

Lead for the care group with National Patient Safety Alerts, issues via the Central Alert System (CAS). Reporting monthly to Diagnostic, Cancer and Buckland care group quality and risk meeting.

Main duties of the job

Main duties are (but not exhaustively) to Promote high standards of care through the demonstration of expertise and knowledge of quality and patient safety principles/methodologies.

Support the creation of a positive learning environment where staff development is encouraged and fostered and the principles of patient safety, governance and improvement are embedded.

Achieve safety and effectiveness benefits, by embedding patient safety related learning as a 'Golden Thread' weaving through the trust's improvement journey and patient safety priorities.

Work with a wide range of staff within and external to the organisation to provide an accessible and knowledgeable resource for patient safety.

Input into the development and implementation of the NHS Patient Safety Strategy, specifically to support the introduction of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework.

Support course/workstream leads to develop, deliver and integrate multi-disciplinary (MDT) patient safety training into programmes designed to improve clinical safety and effectiveness.

Support the implementation of proven changes to help achieve a culture of safety which empowers teams to approach safety effectively, in line with the Trust's QI and organisational development programmes.

Actively lead on and delivery to the care group patient safety improvements and support the specialities within Diagnostic, Cancer and Buckland care group to support this aim.
