Job summary
The successful applicant will be expected to take part in developing services within the Trust and to share the clinical, administrative and teaching work with the other consultants in the department. Participation in clinical audit is a requirement and an ongoing activity in both Departments. Clinical research projects are encouraged. These are full time 10 PA posts which include 2 SPAs.
Any candidate who wishes to work less than full time will be considered and supported, taking into account service needs. Additional sessions may be available on request. The post will be subject to the Terms and Conditions of the new Consultant Contract (2003). In addition to appraisal, the job plans of all consultants will be reviewed at least annually in conjunction with the Site/ Trust Lead and Clinical director.
*A £10,000 recruitment premium will be paid on commencement and £10,000 after 12 months' service. To be repaid (pro rata %) if you leave within 12 months of either payment.
Main duties of the job
This post in general anaesthesia is based at QEQM Hospital with the opportunity to subspecialise in Obstetrics, Regional, Trauma, orthopaedics and colorectal anaesthesia dependent on individual interest and training. This post has arisen due to retirement and service expansion. The candidate can work on Kent and Canterbury hospital site flexibly.
In addition to the clinical responsibilities of the post the department is looking for a candidate who will bring to the department new skills, knowledge and techniques. This may include patient safety, quality improvement, management or research. Possession of proven capabilities in the candidate's chosen area of expertise together with high training would be advantageous.
