Job summary

The Urology department is delighted to offer a replacement appointment for a urological surgeon with an interest in all treatment options for urinary stones. This post has arisen due to retirement. All cases are discussed in a dedicated stone MDT and therefore allows in depth discussion of challenging cases with established stone surgeons. This meeting is supported by stone nurse specialists and a coordinator. We currently have facilities for PCNL, on site ESWL and flexible and rigid ureteroscopy. We would like to develop a metabolic stones clinic to support the service, allied to our renal medicine colleagues and therefore opens a further opportunity for a stone surgery specialist. GIRFT data has shown that we have a high volume of stone surgery.

Main duties of the job

The applicants will have a broad based training in urological Surgery. They should have Specialist Recognition in Urological Surgery and stones. They must be able to integrate well within the department and help deliver urological services to the local population. They should understand cancer pathways and routine non-cancer diagnostic pathways. They should be able to be on-call and supply urological advice and assistance in emergencies. The successful applicant will participate in the weekly cancer MDT meeting. The role will encompass general urology, with the opportunity to develop a specialist interest to fit in with the department's needs, and develop new technologies and techniques.
