Specialist Renal Pharmacist

Job summary

With this newly created post, we are expanding our renal pharmacy team to help provide an enhanced service to our renal patients.

This role has been specifically created to provide additional pharmacy input into our dialysis and renal outpatient population, as well as to lead on some substantial medication cost saving projects.

There will be the opportunity to gain experience in all areas of renal pharmacy, with encouragement and support to develop knowledge, skills, experience and behaviour through mapping to the advanced pharmacy framework and renal expert professional practice curriculum.

The successful candidates will need to be able to build on the existing strong relationships the pharmacy department has with senior medical and nursing leads in the renal specialty.

The post-holder will be based at Kent & Canterbury, but expected to work at other sites, including the 5 satellite dialysis units on a regular basis.

Main duties of the job

  • To operate as a specialist pharmacist in renal across the trust, supporting safe and effective use of medicines to improve patient safety
  • To lead on medication cost-savings projects identified within the renal care group
  • To lead on the service delivered to our haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis population
  • To effectively manage and supervise pharmacists working within the renal pharmacy team
  • To deputise for the lead pharmacist for renal at pharmacy and care group level when required
