Job summary
The Microbiology service has a vacancy for a Quality Practitioner, the post is 30 hours per week. Although the main part of the role is to work within the quality team, the ideal candidate would be able to support the laboratory with weekend and extended day working. For the right candidate however, we are prepared to be flexible.
A Biomedical Science degree would be useful, as would having work experience within Pathology or healthcare, however the successful candidate would be fully trained in quality management systems and offered professional development opportunities We are therefore, looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual, who is looking to progress their career.
Main duties of the job
With the Quality Team, you will develop and promote a high-quality culture within the Microbiology service, teaching, mentoring and coaching the team to ensure ISO 15189 standards are maintained, including compliance with the Antenatal and New born screening programmes and that there is continual quality and service improvement.
As an Associate Practitioner you will contribute to the laboratory technical service by working effectively as an integral team member in any section of the Microbiology service and to undertake duties to support the Biomedical Scientists.
You will be able to perform core scientific and basic interpretive work, appropriate to the training and qualifications of an Associate Healthcare Practitioner, whilst undertaking Continuous Professional Development.

We are a fully ISO 15189 accredited service & are recognised by the "IBMS" and the "National School for Healthcare Science" for training.We are a dynamic diverse team currently training Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Trainee Clinical Scientists, Senior, Principal and Consultant clinical scientists, Senior Clinical Fellows & apprentices at several levels.Our philosophy is to invest and develop staff, to strive for a workforce fit for the future.
We have an extensive repertoire and scope of practice, you would be using much of the latest high-quality innovation and technology, for instance Bruker Maldi-ToF, Biofire film array, Elite Ingenius molecular platform, Alinity M molecular platform, Abbott M2000, Serosep Enteric PCR, Luminex respiratory PCR, Biomek i5 robotic extraction platform, 2 Liaison XLs, IQ Sprints, Virtuo automated blood culture platforms on 2 hospital sites, Beckman Coulter Microscan (broth dilution) for AST and Autoplak automation for plate inoculation. We are also busy expanding our Mycology service recently introducing the Galactomannan test to accompany our anti-fungal susceptibility testing.
