Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated lead paediatric diabetes dietitian to join the Children's Diabetes Team.

The post holder will be an experienced paediatric dietitian who has good knowledge and understanding of the management of childhood diabetes and shows commitment to working with and supporting children, young people and their families. The applicant will ideally have a minimum of three years post qualification experience including a minimum of two years working within the specialist area of childhood and adolescent diabetes. You will work within the well-established, innovative, multi-disciplinary team providing holistic care to all our clients. Your role will include the line management of a small team of specialist dietitians.

As a specialist dietitian, you will be fully involved in the clinical care and education, support and eventual transfer to adult services of the child/young person and their family. This will include partaking in the out of hours on-call telephone service. You will mainly work within the hospital setting but the role may entail time within the home and the community; enhancing established links with schools and other community groups and forging new ones. Dedicated children's diabetes clinics are established in five localities within the Trust whilst inpatient care following diagnosis is provided by the two busy children's wards on two main sites.

Main duties of the job

The team currently mentor Child Branch students and has excellent links with the University of Kent.

Evidence of continued professional development, experience and post registration study e.g. a recognised course in the management of childhood/adolescent diabetes is essential along with experience in insulin pump therapy.

A comprehensive induction plan is offered and you will be supported by a dedicated team of highly skilled and supportive specialist nurses, dietitians and consultants to ensure you are fully supported.

As a team we are working hard to ensure we put children, young people (CYP) and their families at the heart of everything we do.

With one of the largest services for CYP with diabetes within the South East and London network and approximately 75% of CYP using insulin pump therapy, we can offer you a rewarding, flexible and supportive role both working within a large multidisciplinary team as well gaining vast experience in the use of the latest technology.
