Job summary

The job plan for this post will equate to a 10 PA contract. The regular weekly duties will include trauma list, fracture clinics, virtual fracture clinic, speciality elective activity and on-call commitments. Anticipated on-callrota, weekday 1:15 and weekend is 1:12.

We will work with you to shape the ideal job plan upon successful appointment, and review it with you after three months and then annually - so you can keep the perfect fit. We will also provide the essential resources to support you in your duties, including administrative support.

The successful applicant will provide Trauma service at the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital, Margate and elective services at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital, Canterbury. The job plan for the post will include cross cover for elective activity to minimise disruption to elective theatre provision when colleagues are away. There may be an opportunity for additional appropriately remunerated week-end elective activity.

Main duties of the job

Traumao The post holder will be expected to provide general orthopaedic trauma on-call cover, trauma theatres sessions and actively participate in trauma meetingso The post holder will be expected to undertake weekly all day trauma listo The post holder is expected to have an active involvement in lower limb fractureso The post holder will be expected to participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota which is currently 1:15 weekdays and 1:12 weekends.Electiveo Sub-speciality Elective Orthopaedic interest should complement trust needs. Both upper and lower limb candidates are encouraged to applyo The post also provides a potential opportunity to work in cohesion with the regional vascular centre,diabetic unit, general surgeons, Healthcare of older of elderly people (HCOOP), Rheumatology,Radiology including Interventional Radiology.

Job description

Job responsibilities

    • The post holder will be expected to provide general Trauma oncall cover and trauma theatres session cover. This includes programmed activities for 10 PAs.
    • The post holder will be expected to undertake a weekly all-day trauma list and likely to cover other trauma sessions for annual leave for colleagues.
    • The post holder will be expected to participate in the out-of-hours oncall rota which is currently 1:15 weekdays and 1:12 weekends.
    • The post holder must ensure that standards are developed through clinical audit, evidence-based research and appraisal.
    • The post holder will aim to ensure all emergency patients are reviewed by a consultant within 14 hours of admission.
    • The post holder will be required to participate in audit, the Trusts Clinical Governance processes and in CPD. They are also expected to contribute to the development and maintenance of clinical protocol

    Leadership/Management

    • The post holder must demonstrate behaviour which supports and promotes the Trust vision and values at all opportunities.
    • The post holder will be required to support the Lead Clinician, general and operational managers and clinical director in policy and strategy development as a member of the Care Group team.
    • The post holder will work within the Trusts framework for corporate governance including standing orders, standing financial instructions and financial procedures.
    • Corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management and supervision of doctors in training.
    • All clinical staff are accountable and responsible for their own clinical competence and should limit their actions to those for which they are deemed competent.
    • Be familiar with the college curriculum for doctors in training to contribute to their training requirements.

    Professional

    • Take personal accountability for own clinical practice and to work at all times within the GMCs Good Medical Practice and Leadership and Management for all doctors.
    • Promote and adhere to the both the Trust and Care Group policy and procedures at all times.
    • Accept corporate responsibility to work effectively and positively within the Trust performance framework to meet Trust targets.
    • The post holder will be responsible for their own continuing professional development and medical education; study leave is provided for this purpose, and the appointee will be entitled to apply to the Trust Study Leave Committee for a contribution to funding of this activity.
    • Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional or national levels.
    • Maintain high standard of professional and personal integrity at all times.

    Other responsibilities include:

    Budget: Co-operate with the Clinical Director and Operations Director on budget issues

    Communication: This will include responsibility for and arrangement of:

    • Communication and liaison with all other medical and service departments within the hospital including: General Management, Medical Records, and Social Work Department
    • Communication with General Practitioners will include telephone discussion of problems and writing of letters about cases seen in the department
    • Communication with other hospitals and special departments in other hospitals
    • Teaching: Junior doctors and medical students, nurses and other paramedical staff in the team in speciality and special interest
