Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated, focused and enthusiastic HCPC registered BMS to join the team at our Blood Sciences laboratory at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital. This role is for Biomedical Scientist in Biochemistry. You will be part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary blood science team that provides a 24/7 specialist and acute services to the patients of East Kent

We are UKAS ISO 15189; 2012 accredited as are all Pathology disciplines within the organisation. Our services offer an exciting range of diagnostic tests and the department has a strong training ethos linked to career development and progression

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have a designated base at Kent and Canterbury Hospital but should the needs of the service dictate as an employee of EKHUFT you could be asked to work at an alternate site.

The primary role will be the day to day running of the main Biochemistry laboratory, including making decisive analytical decisions, utilising both manual and automated techniques. Ensuring a robust and timely delivery of service is met on site.

After a period of training and competency assessment the successful candidate will be expected to participate in our multi-disciplinary continuous processing pattern (CPP), 24-7 365, including nights, weekends and bank holidays. This system is fully WTD compliant. Though not essential, previous multidisciplinary experience would be an advantage.

About us

Qualifications and training

Essential

  • State Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Biomedical Science Degree or equivalent Post Graduate Diploma or equivalent experience
  • Completion of specialist portfolio in Clinical Biochemistry or equivalent qualification. e.g. MSc in appropriate subject
  • Applicants who can evidence that they are 3 months to completion of their Specialist portfolio will be considered

Desirable

  • IBMS Membership
  • Evidence of CPD

Clinical skills and experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience of working in a busy clinical biochemistry laboratory, ISO 15189 accredited ISO accredited lab number
  • Able to demonstrate competency in appropriate Pathology laboratory techniques.
  • Experience in working night shifts in an ISO 15189 accredited laboratory

Desirable

  • 3 years post registration experience
  • Experience across all areas of clinical biochemistry.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of advances in Clinical Biochemistry in an ISO 15189 accredited laboratory
