Job summary

We are currently looking for a Locum Emergency General Consultant Surgeon with an interest in Colorectal surgery to cover a period of maternity leave.

The successful candidates will join the Surgical Department at the QEQM Hospital and work within the team to support and enhance the already excellent department. The post holder will lead to a total of 14 consultant surgeons within the department.

  • Hot Gall Bladder and elective Gall Bladder Service

  • Compliance with complaints
  • Regular Ward Rounds and support 'criteria to reside'
  • Communicate and work with supporting staff and team including other departments and tertiary centre.

About us

The Surgery and Anaesthetics Care Group runs General Surgical services in the 2 acute hospitals - the William Harvey Hospital (WHH) and Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital (QEQM).

The Department has an active role in teaching undergraduate medical students on attachments from UCL, GKT and Imperial Medical Schools. We are involved in offering undergraduate teaching to the new Medical School, Kent & Medway Institute of Medicine, which has started in September 2020.

Qualifications and training

Essential

  • Royal College membership or fellowship or equivalent.
  • Full GMC Registration.
  • Independent practice within NHS and experience managing junior medical staff and teams over a number of years.

Desirable

  • IBD Surgery
  • Other higher degree or diploma

Skills and experience

Essential

  • Understanding of the provision and delivery of health care services and Government strategy for modernising health care.

Desirable

  • Analytical and numeracy skills Financial Management skills

Clinical governance

  • Able to make calm rational decisions in the face of adversity. Capacity to work with managers and others to develop a shared vision of services for patients and standards in delivery.
