Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a RN (Child) with an interest and experience in mental health to support children and young people presenting in mental health crisis. You will provide visible, credible, professional clinical leadership, supporting the clinical management of Children and Young People with mental health issues who have been admitted onto the inpatient wards and to support other departments in the Trust that may be caring for children/young people (such as Emergency Department and Outpatient clinics).
You should have experience of caring for children and young people with mental health conditions in either the acute or community settings, be able to work collaboratively with other agencies and have a sound knowledge of children's safeguarding.
You will be part of a team of other Specialist Nurses and will be given opportunities to develop expertise in this area in line with the requirements of the role. Restorative supervision will be offered to the post holder in addition to management and safeguarding supervision.
Main duties of the job
- To improve patient experience, quality and efficiency of service in general hospitals by focusing on CYP with mental health issues that can complicate their care and discharge.
- Ensuring the nursing care delivered to CYP with mental and physical health needs is of a high quality, research based, and is patient and family focused.
- To support the wider paediatric nursing and medical team, by arranging training opportunities to up-skill all professionals on effectively managing young people's mental health needs.
- To co-ordinate care for children and young people by liaising with the medical, nursing, SWL St Georges Mental Health CAMHS Services/SABP and other support services
- Be a champion for children's mental health and an effective role model for junior team members supporting and promoting a learning environment.
- Work in close liaison with the Paediatric Matron to allocate safe and appropriate enhanced nursing care to children and young people as required.
