Job summary

The Deputy General Manager (DGM) is responsible for the operational and strategic management of a portfolio of services within the Cancer & Clinical Services Division, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective patient care and meeting all national and Trust performance targets. Reporting to the General Manager, the DGM provides strong, visible leadership, manages budgets, and is accountable for compliance with the Trust's Assurance Framework and risk management. The role involves managing staff, driving workforce development, and securing clinical engagement to promote continuous service improvement. The DGM also participates in the Senior Managers on-call rota and is expected to role model the Trust's core value of Respect.

Main duties of the job

  • Operational Management: Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the service portfolio.

  • Strategic Management: Responsible for the strategic direction of the service portfolio.

  • Performance Accountability: Ensure all national and Trust performance targets are met.

  • Quality & Cost-Effectiveness: Guarantee high-quality, cost-effective patient care.

  • Leadership: Provide strong, visible leadership.

  • Financial Management: Manage designated service budgets.

  • Compliance: Accountable for adherence to the Trust's Assurance Framework and risk management.

  • Staff & Development: Manage staff and drive workforce development.

  • Service Improvement: Secure clinical engagement to promote continuous service improvement.

  • On-Call Duty: Participate in the Senior Managers on-call rota.
