Job summary

The Cardiology Matron provides clinical and professional leadership and line management to the clinical nurse team. The post holder will report to the Lead Cardiology nurse and provide visible leadership across a clinical service setting, monitoring and maintaining professional high standards. The post holder needs to be an innovative and dynamic practitioner committed to improving the patient experience, improving standards of care and services, supporting the cardiology leadership team in delivering the trust longer term strategy whilst upholding the nursing, Midwifery and AHP strategy and values. The post holder will be an integral member of the Cardiology department within the Medicine division, providing support to implement and monitor progress on delivery of strategic objectives to ensure the provision of high quality care. They will provide professional and clinical nursing advice and actively contribute to innovative solutions to quality improvement, workforce and capacity management. The lead nurse will support the Cardiology Lead Nurse in the delivery of operational and budgetary management of nursing, quality and standards of care. They will ensure that services are delivered within allocated budgets, identifying evidence to support safe and effective service delivery and contribute to the delivery of the Division and trust financial plan.

Main duties of the job

The Cardiology Matron role has been developed in response to the expanding cardiology clinical nurse specialist team. The emphasis will be on team development, patient experience and pathway improvements within the outpatient nurse-led services. This will encompass, but not be limited to; heart failure, arrhythmia, rapid access chest pain service and cardiac rehabilitation. The post holder will work clinically within one of the subspecialties whilst supporting the lead nurse in the trusts' vision for the strategic development of Cardiology.
