Job summary
The Nurse Colposcopist will assist the multidisciplinary team by undertaking advanced patient assessment and intervention/treatment for patients as an independent Practitioner.
In partnership with members of the multidisciplinary team the post holder will develop, implement and evaluate a seamless specialist service, ensuring that patients receive the highest standard of clinical care. They will demonstrate a high level of expertise within the specialist service, providing specialist advice, education and support to health care professionals and patients. The post holder will actively undertake clinical audits within the specialist area.
The post holder will be responsible for contributing to the ongoing development of clinical practice and standards of care within the service, including development of policies, protocols and guidelines and contribute to service developments in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues. Also ensures the safety and wellbeing of services users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centered care principles. The post holder will fully participate in their training programme to progress to an 8A position within the time period as outlined.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have an in-depth knowledge of Gynaecology and health promotion, the Nurse Colposcopist is responsible for the co-ordination of the clinics, ensuring that there is adequate nursing cover to run the sessions. The post holder is identified as an Accredited Nurse Colposcopist and works collaboratively with Lead Nurse Colposcopist and the Lead Consultant Colposcopist to deliver clinical objectives for the Colposcopy service.
The post holder is also trained or willing to undertake training in performing surgical excisions and ablative treatment procedures, taking responsibility and accountability for appropriate clinical management and care programmes. The post holder will act as a Colposcopy trainer when this is time appropriate in accordance with their experience and their attending the training given at the BSCCP conference. The post holder will move to achieve Band 8A following a training programme over a period of 2 years
