Consultant in Orthopaedics with special interest in hip & knee surgery to work flexibly a 10 PA job plan.
Applications are invited for an initial 12 month fixed term locum post to work in the South West London Orthopaedic centre (SWLEOC).
The SWLEOC is an NHS Treatment Centre providing regional elective orthopaedic surgery services (including inpatient, day-case and outpatient). Established by the four South West London acute Trusts to deliver strategic change in the delivery of planned orthopaedic care, the SWLEOC provides high quality, cost efficient, elective orthopaedic services ranked amongst the best in the world.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be a part of SWLEOC team and will provide a flexible orthopaedic service to patients with problems of the hip and knee.
The post holder will deliver a high quality and high volume joint replacement service.
The post holder will be responsible for working flexibly for the Hip/Knee elective service.
The post holder will take part in departmental teaching, training, governance, and performance.
The post holder must be medically qualified with a license to practice, on the GMC specialist register and have completed at least 2 fellowships in hip and knee arthroplasty.
The post holder will provide an elective hip and knee service predominantly focussing on arthroplasty. Experience in revision surgery, whilst not essential, would be desirable.

The SWLEOC is an NHS Treatment Centre providing regional elective orthopaedic surgery services (including inpatient, day-case and outpatient). Established by the four South West London acute Trusts to deliver strategic change in the delivery of planned orthopaedic care, the SWLEOC provides high quality, cost efficient, elective orthopaedic services ranked amongst the best in the world.
Since opening in January 2004, the SWLEOC has earned a reputation as a centre of excellence for elective orthopaedic surgery with excellent outcomes, low complications, and high patient satisfaction. The Centre consistently strives to deliver 18 week patient waiting times (standard). Length of stay, infection rates and PROMs are amongst the best in the world. As a centre of excellence, the SWLEOC has a large volume of visitors from around the UK and abroad, looking at processes and outcomes.
The SWLEOC provides a clinical pathway of care that is nurse and Consultant led; Specialist Registrars will attend surgery for training but there are no House Officer/Senior House Officers within the Centre, their role being undertaken by the nursing teams.
It runs a dedicated Research Outcomes program and takes an active role in research including Orthopaedic Data Evaluation Panel (ODEP) studies as recommended by NICE. The centre has a strong focus on Education across the multi-professional team.
