Job summary

General: We are looking for a full time, suitably qualified audiologist with a proven track record of experience working with children of all ages to join our dynamic, friendly paediatric team.

Specific: To work as part of the paediatric audiology team to provide diagnostics and auditory rehabilitation for our paediatric service and support to paediatric ENT. The post holder will work in both second tier community based and third tier hospital based clinics. They will assist with service improvement and quality assurance as we work together to provide the highest level of care.

Our department

We have a large and diverse multidisciplinary audiology team at ESTH, comprising Audiovestibular Consultants, Paediatric Audiologists, Adult Audiologists and Audiology Technicians. The successful candidate will work alongside these clinicians, as well as with ENT doctors, SALTs and TODs. The department provides a strong learning environment and the post holder will benefit from regular educational training sessions and information sharing from the wider team.

The successful candidate will work in a purpose built audiology department, situated within the Paediatric Hospital, providing quick links to multidisciplinary care. They will be working in a comfortable environment with state of the art facilities, surrounded by a supportive team.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have prior experience working with babies, children and young adults. They will be adept at dealing with a range of hearing losses, tinnitus and other complex challenges.

The successful candidate will complete specialist work including but not limited to:

  • Comprehensive age appropriate testing and diagnostic assessments of hearing
  • In-depth knowledge of paediatric test protocols and assessment techniques
  • Manage identified hearing loss with up to date hearing aid fitting, verification, validation and provision of information regarding assistive devices
  • Liaise with allied professionals

They will have the ability to work autonomously to assess and interpret results and make rehabilitation decisions whilst working within a larger team. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and communication with patients, parents, carers and colleagues when feeding back results and creating individual management plans. They will have good verbal and written skills and create detailed and accurate reports in a timely fashion.

The post holder will enjoy a varied workload, primarily based in the hospital setting but with weekly community based clinical sessions.

The post holder will be expected to provide training and supervision to new starters, students, colleagues and other professionals as required. They will contribute to local departmental audits, research and development.
