Job summary
The postholder will provide an Occupational Therapy service for children who experience difficulties in their functional abilities or skills development in the areas of self-care, productivity and leisure in accordance with the service level agreement for Sutton Health & Care Community Services.
They will contribute to the development of the Occupational Therapy service for children. They will plan and provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessment, advice and treatment for children with functional difficulties, working closely with the multidisciplinary team, school staff and families. They will work autonomously and without direct supervision in a defined clinical area, and will be accountable for their own clinical actions.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Responsibilities
- To provide a specialist paediatric Occupational Therapy service to a defined caseload
- To be responsible for a clinical caseload of children with a Sutton GP or an Education Health and Care Plan as commissioned by the London Borough of Sutton and Health Commissioners
- To use standardised and non standardised assessment, interview and observation skills to determine needs of children and effectively set goals and plan intervention
- To be responsible for a defined caseload ensuring time management to enable effective service provisi
Management Responsibility/Professional Leadership
- To assist the children's Occupational Therapy Team Leader in planning and providing appropriate Occupational Therapy input to children in Sutton, including attendance at meetings, developing guidelines and protocols and reviewing service provision.
- To keep the Team Leader up-to-date with service provision issues and report any untoward incidences, clinical or non-clinical, promptly, co-operating with any investigation undertaken.
- To actively review efficacy of service delivery and facilitate setting up of new standards or amending existing ones, in close liaison with the Team.
- To keep up-to-date with the Department and Trust standards and policies and facilitate dissemination of this knowledge to colleagues.
