Job summary
Applications are invited for a Ocular Surface Disease/Oculoplastics Fellow for a twelve month fixed term. This post forms part of an exciting development of service provision for the Anterior Segment and Ocular surface services.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their clinical skills in mainstream ophthalmic subspecialties. A minimum of 4 years ophthalmic training in General Ophthalmology is essential.
Although this post does not have formal training recognition, it would allow interested applicants to expand their clinical experience of Ophthalmology with a view to self directed training.
There is considerable opportunity to gain experience in the management of complex ocular surface disease and corneoplastic conditions. There is also provision for training in cataract surgery and general oculoplastic surgery. The post offers considerable potential to contribute to teaching, training and research within the department and the successful candidate would be encouraged to present their work at national and international meetings. Basic ophthalmic knowledge and experience in cataract surgery is essential.
The post holder will also be expected to participate in new and on-going research projects.
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual who is patient centered to work in our multidisciplinary team of ophthalmologists, orthoptists, optometrists and a supportive nursing and technician team.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work with the clinical lead for the general ophthalmic services and the clinical lead for ocular surface disease and oculoplastics, and ensure patients referred to the service receive good quality care and treatment. This post will focus on anterior segment, ocular surface disease and oculoplastics. All fellow posts include training in cataract surgery. Fellows will attend outpatient clinics, Acute Eye Service and theatre sessions. There is NO on-call with this post.
About us
We run a minimum of 3 theatre sessions per week in the Day Case Unit at Epsom Hospital providing cataract and strabismus surgery.

- Hold a medical qualification or qualification registered with the GMC and a licence to practice
Desirable
- MRCOphth /FEBO or equivalent
- Evidence of peer reviewed publications
- Appropriate higher medical qualification i.e. FRCOphth /FRCS or equivalent.
- Entry onto the Specialist Register for GMC or be within six months of obtaining CCT/CCST or equivalent
Clinical Experience

- High standard of clinical skill and expertise in the specialty
