Job summary

We are looking for a qualified clinical neuropsychologist with post-qualification experience to provide a service to an acute stroke unit.

You will provide a high quality clinical neuropsychology service to the inpatient Stroke Unit including expert neuropsychological assessment for people with stroke, assessment and management of emotional and behavioural difficulties, and planning rehabilitation.

You will provide support, supervision and teaching to the multidisciplinary teams and other health professionals. You will contribute to the development of services which are sensitive to and address the psychological and emotional needs of all patients referred to the services. You will also be responsible for ensuring that the services meet commissioners' requirements and are in line with National and local guidelines through close working with the Team leads.

You will be supervised by, and work with the clinical neuropsychologist providing a service to St Helier inpatient stroke unit.

You will be part of a Clinical Health Psychology service with posts in pain management, diabetes, cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome and paediatrics in addition to the post being advertised. The area is easily accessible from central London but also close to the North Downs and Surrey countryside. As we are now part of the GESH group there may be possibilities of combining this post with one at St George's Hospital.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Psychologist Band 8a

  • To be responsible for providing a comprehensive specialist neuropsychological and psychological assessment service for stroke patients
  • To exercise full responsibility and autonomy for the treatment of and discharge from neuropsychological care of clients, ensuring appropriate assessment, formulation and interventions, communicating with the referral agent and all other professional groups in the rehabilitation team as appropriate including professionals outside the team
  • To provide expertise and highly specialist neuropsychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals working onStroke

Person Specification

Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, as accredited by the HCP

Essential

  • Doctoral level training in clinical psychology, as accredited by the HCPC
  • Recognised pre or postdoctoral training in neuropsychology.

Desirable

  • Training and Qualifications in research methodology, staff training, and/or other fields of psychology.
  • Completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Neuropsychology (or prepared to undertake/commence within 24 months)
