Band 5/6 Developmental Intensive Practitioner - Swindon
The closing date is 14 April 2026
Job summary
The Swindon Intensive Service is a well established and supportive community home treatment team based at Sandalwood Court, Swindon. The team provides assessments and treatments to individuals and their families who are experiencing complex mental health difficulties that require intensive treatment/interventions.
We would welcome applicants from nursing, social work or occupational therapy backgrounds. This post is a development role for recently qualified professionals (preferably with some experience post registration) and we would support that with an enhanced learning and development programme, with regular supervisions, so that successful applicants can meet the standards to move into Band 6 post within an agreed time frame.
We are looking for enthusiastic practitioners who are motivated to provide excellent standards of client centred care. We pride ourselves in the diversity of experience within the team that allows for development and growth. The multi-disciplinary team currently consists of Consultant Psychiatrists, Nurses, OTs and recovery co-ordinators.
The job can be fast paced and therefore we are looking for someone who has a flexible approach to their work as well as a good sense of humour to join our friendly team. So, if you have an interest in developing into a specialist mental health crisis practitioner we would love to hear from you!
Main duties of the job
This is a new developmental Band 5 post where you will be actively supported to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to transition to a Band 6 within the team when you and we feel that you are ready.
You will need to be proactive and a good problem solver.
We will support you to become increasingly autonomous in your role and develop strong assessment, triage and care planning/ implementation skills. You will need strong communication skills to develop therapeutic relationships with people in a range of challenging situations.
You will be fully supported with your community preceptorship and/or developmental plan which will be regularly reviewed at agreed intervals. Timeframe of completion to Band 6 tends to be 12 months post registration and opportunities for your learning will be actively encouraged.
As a Band 5 Intensive Practitioner you will be part of a multi-disciplinary team providing health and social care interventions to service users with complex mental health issues, whom without community intervention may be at risk of hospitalisation. You will support the management of the team caseload by joining our senior staff to carry out frontline emergency and urgent assessments and the development and implementation of recovery focussed care plans and risk management plans. You will be supported by senior members of the team to develop your competence and confidence in these areas.
