An exiting and rewarding opportunity has arisen to share your Learning Disability and Autism knowledge and experience as a Oliver McGowan Training Facilitator.
This role sits within the AWP Learning and Development team, who are responsible for facilitating learning and development for the trusts workforce in the Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire areas. The Training Facilitator is responsible for delivering Oliver McGowan learning disability and autism training to people who work in AWP across a diverse range of services.
Main duties of the job
The training facilitator will have an in-depth understanding of learning disability and autism as well as previous experience of delivering training to staff.
The role will focus on leading and supporting expert with lived experience co-trainers who will be autistic people and people with a learning disability. Along with the co-trainers the post holder will deliver training to health and social care staff across the BNSSG and BSW regions.

Education and Qualifications
Essential
- Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in specialist area.
- Knowledge and experience of a variety of learning and development methodologies and their application, in particular coaching, action learning, and facilitation.
Desirable
- Oliver McGowan training facilitator approval
- A relevant teaching qualification such as Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS), Multi-professional support of learning and assessment in practice, or an equivalent.
Experience and Knowledge
Essential
- Significant experience of proficient and successful delivery of face-to-face training in health and social care, or similar environment.
- Has excellent up to date working knowledge of the fields of autism and learning disability and is familiar with current issues.
- Knowledge and understanding of the learning cycle and its application and experience in leading and developing quality practice in others.
- Robust experience, understanding and application of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 within in a health and/or social care environment or similar.
- Robust experience and understanding of the Human Rights Act 1998, the Autism Act 2009, The Equality Act 2010, UK legal valid consent laws and DNACPR case law.
- Previous experience in similar role in public sector and a good understanding of the health and social care environment and roles and responsibilities within it.
Desirable
- Experience of delivering Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training.
- Experience delivering high quality services to people with a learning disability and autistic people in a professional role such as RNLD, OT or social worker, or can demonstrate an equivalent level of skills, knowledge and experience.
