Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and highly skilled Mentalization Based Treatment (MBT) Practitioner to join the Psychological Therapies Service (PTS) in South Glos. The successful candidate will lead the MBT stream of interventions within the PTS and locality. We welcome applications from Nurse Therapists, OT, social workers, psychologists or other accredited professional qualifications with experience of MBT service development and delivery. There will be opportunities CPD to sustain high quality of care for the service user group.
The post holder will provide psychological assessment and treatment for people referred to South Glos. PTS presenting with difficulties associated with a diagnosis of emotionally unstable personality difficulties, which adversely impact on relationships and emotional regulation abilities. The successful applicant will be part of the MBT work stream within PTS and play a central role in the delivery of group and individual psychological interventions whilst sharing a passion for offering high quality, safe and effective MBT treatment.
As a service the South Glos. PTS has a commitment to address issues of structural inequalities and oppression that often create barriers in the provision of equitable care for the service user groups in the Locality.
Main duties of the job
The main focus of the clinical work for this post will be the provision of leadership for the delivering the Mentalization Based Treatment programme within PTS at Kingswood Civic Centre. Day to day work involves:
Psychological assessments, setting up and delivering therapy at individual and group levels. To Provide leadership for the MBT service within the PTS and locality.
To work closely with referrers, services and colleagues to collaborate around the delivery of MBT interventions.
To provide specialist supervision for MBT practitioners, trainees and other mental health practitioners working with people with Emotionally unstable personality difficulties .
The role also offers opportunities for teaching, training and service evaluation/audit.

Essential
- Degree and Masters level qualification, or equivalent experience in Mental Health profession
- Registered mental health professional or Doctoral Clinical/ Counselling Psychology qualification, qualification as a Psychotherapist or Arts Psychotherapist at an accredited training institution or equivalent professional qualification.
- HCPC Registration, professional registration as an adult Psychotherapist, Arts Psychotherapist or Clinical Psychologist with UKCP, or other relevant body.
- Post qualification specialist training in MBT. MBT practitioner status with at least 3 years post qualification experience of delivering MBT therapy full programme
- Experience of service development and delivery
Desirable
- Experience in delivering psychological therapy within MDT setting with people with emotional instability presenting with high risk behaviours
- Extensive experience of providing clinical supervision based on MBT model at individual and group levels
- Interest in providing high quality of care to the service user group presenting with emotional instability and personality disorder
- Ability to participate in the core roles of the PTS practitioners including offering consultation slots, assessments and formulations as per need of the wider PTS
