Job summary

We are looking for a clinical, forensic or counselling psychologist, with an interest in working in a forensic setting with adults with autism and/or learning disabilities, to join our team in Secure Services. We welcome applications from psychologists who are fully qualified or about to qualify (eligible for HCPC practitioner psychologist status).

This post will be split between working on Cary Ward, an 8 bed medium secure ward for men with autism and/or a learning disability (2.5 days at band 7) and the Forensic Intellectual, Neuropsychiatric & Developmental Disorders (FIND) Team (2.5 days 8a preceptorship).

Main duties of the job

The FIND team also specialises in working with autistic people and people with learning disabilities and has a range of roles, including providing consultation to other services, completing access assessments where someone may require admission to secure services, and providing a specialist outreach and liaison service to support people who are being discharged from secure services.

About us

Secure Services consists of Fromeside, an 81 bed medium secure unit and Wickham, a 30 bed low secure unit, both based on the Blackberry Hill Hospital site in north Bristol. We have a large friendly psychology team with expertise in working with people with a wide range of presenting difficulties including; violence, sex offending, fire setting, learning disabilities, autism and psychosis.

The post will involve providing direct clinical work, consultation, teaching and staff support and working collaboratively with other members of the MDT including psychiatry, nursing, arts psychotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists. We are a friendly multi-disciplinary team and are committed to providing the best possible care to autistic people and people with learning disabilities who have a forensic need. There will be the opportunity to develop skills in completing in depth specialist assessments, developing complex formulations and designing and delivering creative, individualized therapeutic interventions; as well as engaging in complex systemic work. There will also be the opportunity to engage in service development projects. The successful post-holder will need be adaptable, creative, to have excellent communication and team working skills, and to have some experience in working in a forensic setting and/or some experience of working with autistic people and people with learning disabilities.There will be regular supervision and support for the role.
