Job summary

Hours per Week:37.5 fixed term 12 months for full-time or 30 hours per week fixed term 24 months for part-time - to start Induction days in December and Term starts in January2025.

We wish to recruit a number of Trainee High Intensity Therapists to work as part of the award winning Talking Therapies programme across Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon, and Wiltshire services (BSW). This is an exciting opportunity to commence a training role within the NHS Talking Therapies service (previously IAPT). The post-holder will work within the Talking Therapies service providing high intensity (HI) interventions whilst undertaking a programme of training for this role. This intensive training post will equip the post - holder to provide a cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) service to clients with a range of complex problems for which CBT is demonstrated to be clinically effective. The post holder will work in the service using their newly developed skills whilst attending the training programme.

Main duties of the job

Substantive Band 6/7- Whilst a trainee, this post is Band 6 (Trainee HI Therapist (CBT)); upon evidence of successful qualification and evidence of accreditation with the BABCP, the post will become a Band 7 qualified HI Therapist (CBT).

The post-holder will work within the service to provide high intensity CBT interventions to patients at Step 3 of the Talking Therapies service. HI therapists deliver a variety of CBT interventions, including face to face, video and telephone based work as well as group workshops when qualified. The post-holder will attend the High Intensity CBT training programme and supervision at University of Exeter alongside working within the Talking Therapies service.

*Failure to uphold this standard would lead to the HI CBT course losing its accreditation and similarly impact the individual trainees.

**Please note: the number of days required to meet the educational objectives and skills based competences covered during the course are only achievable if a minimum number of days occur in clinical practice, in addition to the required days spent within the university.

  • For full time (1.0wte) trainees undertaking training within 1yr, this should equate to 4 sessions (0.4wte/2 days) weekly in order for the trainee to carry a HI caseload of around 12 clients.
  • For part time (0.7 0.9wte) trainees undertaking training within 2yrs, this should equate to 2 3 sessions (0.2 0.3wte) weekly in order for the trainee to carry a HI caseload of around 6 - 9 clients.

Successful candidates should not be undertaking any other role in service or other training whilst undertaking the course, whether they are taking the full time or part time option. Please consult national guidance for information concerning the contracts required for this workforce.

Any candidates without a BABCP recognised core profession, will need to submit their completed KSA portfolio at interview. KSA candidates successful at interview will be offered a High Intensity training post subject to KSA evidence being assessed by the KSA assessor and deemed suitable.
