Job responsibilities

Clinical

1. To offer highly specialist assessments and consultations to patients with complex mental health difficulties.

2. To provide psychological therapy to individual patients and groups.

3. To co-facilitate the South Bristol DBT group and attend the DBT Consultation team meeting. They may hold a DBT case.

4. To liaise with Recovery teams, provide consultancy and identify appropriate care pathways for patients with complex needs within secondary services..

5. To work jointly with multidisciplinary colleagues within secondary services offering consultations, case management and case-based discussion and providing expert advice.

6. To participate in the locality CPI referral meetings.

7. To participate in clinical supervision and caseload supervision arrangements provided by the CPI service.

8. If required, to provide clinical supervision for therapists working under clinical license, CPI staff and staff working in the Recovery team.

Professional

1. To work within the Ethical Principles and Code of Professional Conduct of the registered. professional body. To work using best and evidence based practice.

2. To participate in professional meetings where agreed.

3. To be aware of and adhere to Trust Policies and Procedures.

4. To participate in an annual performance appraisal.

Clinical Governance

1. To support and participate in multidisciplinary clinical audit in the service.

2. To promote the use of effective interventions in the service.

3. To liaise with other disciplines and agencies to ensure that best practice is shared.

Training and Staff Development

1. To offer training in psychological approaches to a wide range of other staff including staff in the multidisciplinary team and to staff from other parts of the service.

2. To collaborate with colleagues to develop and offer training courses.

3. To agree a plan for personal development with the CPI line manager and participate in an annual review.

Research and Development

1. To participate in Clinical Audit projects in the CPI service.

2. To encourage a culture of evidence based practice in all parts of the Service.

3. To contribute to CPI reporting of activity on a yearly basis.

Most challenging part of this role

1.Working with service-users with challenging and risky behaviour who have severe and enduring mental health problems and who can be acutely distressed.

2. An emotionally demanding job that requires good personal and professional boundaries, high levels of concentration and confidence in managing the distress of others.

3. To be able to respond sensitively and effectively to the competing demands of clinical work, team support and professional responsibilities.

4. To engage in intensive therapy with service users who may be risky, difficult to engage or highly distressed.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work within/ link with the Complex Psychological interventions (CPI) service. The CPI are a friendly and supportive team, who are highly valued within local services. They offer a range of activities to support psychologically informed care within the secondary mental health service, developing and delivering psychological therapies. The team are comprised of multidisciplinary professions, including Clinical Psychologists, Arts Psychotherapists, Medical Psychotherapists and Specialist Nurses.

As a part of the CPI team, you will receive excellent support and supervision from more senior and well-established CPI members who work within a range of therapeutic specialisms. There are also opportunities to link with psychological therapist colleagues and participate in regular case presentations and peer learning and development through the CPI.

The CPI have links to local training institutions and Universities, bringing opportunities for teaching, mentoring, and research. The CPI also work to support opportunities to develop staff through ongoing professional training and development, both internally and externally.

Qualifications

Essential

• Degree or if necessary a Masters level qualification in a relevant area. Including social work/nursing degree with additional formal therapeutic training.

• Qualification as a Clinical /Counselling Psychologist, Adult Psychotherapist or Arts Psychotherapist or at an accredited training institution or equivalent professional qualification. CBT/CBTp accredited with the BABCP or accreditable as per BABCP guidelines or be able to seek accreditation with appropriate support from the organisation. CAT accredited by ACAT, or systemic family therapist with AFT accreditation.
