Job summary
A fantastic opportunity for an ambitious and experienced pharmacy technician to lead the AWP Pharmacy Service Operations for one year on a fixed term basis has arisen.
The successful candidate will provide leadership for the two dispensaries operated by the AWP Pharmacy Service, one in Bristol, and one in Calne. They will be an integral member of the operational leadership team, overseeing quality improvement initiatives, and working closely with the digital pharmacy team to implement digital solutions in the dispensaries.
We operate a weekend and bank holiday pharmacy service from both dispensaries. This is approximately 1 in 10.
Main duties of the job
- To lead and manage the team of pharmacy technicians and assistants based at the pharmacy hub in Calne and at Callington Road Hospital Pharmacy, in providing medicines to all wards and units in the Trust and outside organisations.
- To maintain, develop and monitor high quality, cost effective dispensing, distribution and procurement services.
- To manage the technical pharmacy team, including annual leave, HR issues and training and development.
- To assist in the management, and co-ordinate the dispensing, of clinical trials, with the dispensary pharmacist and Medicines Optimisation Pharmacist.
- To be managerially responsible for the pharmacy semi- automated machine and ensure the safe and efficient running of the machine.
- To provide regular written reports on performance against key KPIs when required.
- To work with the Trust transport service to ensure timely and safe deliver of all medicines.
- To ensure that the service responds in a timely manner to service developments.

The AWP pharmacy service supplies medication and provides clinical support to wards and teams across our core catchment area. We have two dispensaries: We have two dispensaries: one in Calne (Wiltshire) and one at Callington Road Hospital (Bristol). As well as managing the medicines supply chain in the trust, we support the safe and effective use of medicines throughout the organisation through our clinical work, enquiry answering, medicines governance activity and many other roles. The team are friendly, dynamic and evolving, with aspirations to improve patient care across the AWP geography.Support from other experienced mental health pharmacists and technicians is always available.
