This is an opportunity to join our creative and dynamic CAMHS Intensive Outreach Team as Clinical Lead.
We are looking for an experienced Psychologist or Systemic Psychotherapist to join our team, and work alongside management to continue to support the development of the service across Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset.
The CIOT team are a really welcoming, sociable team working from a largely DBT/Systemic informed approach who foreground anti-oppressive practice in their work with young people as well as in our team culture.
Training: this year staff have had training in DDP, ACT, NVR, DBT and Trauma informed work as well as accessing the Exeter University Outreach team training package and this is something we hope to continue with over the next 12 months. The successful candidate would ideally have training in some of these or be willing to train in the above.
Main duties of the job
To provide a highly specialist clinical assessment/treatment and consultation service to children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties and their families who are referred to CAMHS intensive outreach team. This will be working with a shared caseload of young people who are at risk of admission to CAMHS inpatient unit, are unable to engage in community CAMHS interventions, are stepping down from a CAMHS Inpatient Unit or need intensive support with their mental health; for example OCD. To bring skills relating to DBT, CBT, or systemic approaches to Attachment/Trauma.
You would be:
- Supervising staff from a range of professional backgrounds
- Offering in house training and staff development
- Formulation and consultation to our network partners; Children's Social Care, Bristol Children's Hospital and
- Joining to offer specialist input to complex cases.
- Supervising our well-established Family Therapy Clinic (if systemically trained) or contributing to the running of our newly established DBT Service and supervising trainee psychologists/APs if psychology.
- Supporting the leadership team to think about service development.

To provide consultation and advice in area of specialism to colleagues in the team and other agencies. To regularly support with leading/facilitating formulations to support staff in identifying the most appropriate intervention for young people.
To use highly specialist psychological knowledge and skills to contribute to the
more effective management of patients by the various teams in the area and
where appropriate outside of the area.
To provide psychologically informed reflective spaces for staff to be able to process traumatic incidences which may have impacted multiple members of the team in the form of cold de-briefs. The purpose of this is to support the wellbeing of staff as well as to help identify areas for service development.
To clinically supervise clinical staff, trainees, less
experienced staff, and other professionals.
To contribute to audit, research, policy and service development within the areas
served by the Psychological Therapies Service.
To support the CAMHS team with service evaluation and audit to include supporting the service in becoming more accessible and inclusive to the diverse local population served by this CAMHS team.
To develop and deliver training in psychological assessment and therapies for multidisciplinary staff.
To provide training as needed to other members of the multidisciplinary team on psychological assessment, formulation and treatment for young people in CAMHS.
