Job summary

Green Lane Hospital is seeking a motivated substantive Senior Practitioner to join it's well established 20 bedded adult acute inpatient and 4 bedded Place of Safety Units.

Poppy Unit is a 20 bedded adults of working age acute inpatient, mixed gender ward. It offers care to Service Users with a serious mental illness who are in crisis.

Bluebell Unit is a health-based Place of Safety with 4 mixed gender beds. It provides admission for a 24-hour period for those detained on a Section 136/135. Admissions may include adults of working age, older adults and CAMH's and involves a close working relationship with AMHP service and the Police.

You will demonstrate compassionate leadership and utilise your knowledge and skills to deliver clinical supervision to a number of registered and unregistered staff. The successful candidate will be a passionate and motivated leader that strives for change and improved quality of services.

Standardised hours of the role are Monday-Friday 9-5, however, there may be a requirement to cover clinical shifts within the 24hour service requirements on an ad-hoc basis.

Target employment start date is 4th April 2023.

Main duties of the job

Ensure the continuing improvements to the service in line with organisational goals.

Provide expert evidence based advice to the MDT.

To lead and promote a whole team approach within the service to ensure a shared ownership of the team caseload.

Develop and maintain communication and relationships with a wide range of people/services/ agencies about complex matters or in complex situations with the purpose of sharing developing or resolving difficult or complex issues for the benefit of service users/carer and the service.

To ensure, in partnership with the Ward Manager, the service develops and maintains excellent clinical standards this will be underpinned by robust and effective individual and team supervision processes.

To undertake and support the specialist assessment of physiological and/orpsychological functioning for service users with complex and health and wellbeing needs, in an emergency for service users, who may be acutelyunwell, distressed and in crisis.This may include:a. To be jointly responsible with the ward manager to facilitate and developrobust joint working arrangements with the Intensive service, Recoveryservice and other provider agencies. To review, develop and oversee thedelivery of comprehensive and complex discharge and home treatmentprogrammes using appropriate frameworks in line with evidencebasedpractice, including strategies to manage risk for service users with complex needs, utilising carers views and other resources, as required.

Alongside the Ward Manager oversee and support studentplacements/experience in liaison with the Practice Education Facilitator and key mentors.

To plan, deliver and evaluate defined specialist therapeutic interventionswithin sphere of ward speciality working directly with both qualified andunqualified staff.This might include:a. Family interventionb. Psychological therapies such as CBT.c. Medication managementd. Interventions under the Mental Health Act/Mental capacity Act

To lead, in partnership with the Ward Manager and the therapies servicelead, in the setting up and delivery of a comprehensive range of definedtherapeutic activities/interventions for all inpatients including evenings and weekends.

To ensure, in partnership with the Ward Manager, the service develops and maintains excellent clinical standards this will be underpinned by robust and effective individual and team supervision processes.

To oversee and ensure, across the team, there are effective riskmanagement plans and strategies, for service users and carers, takingaccount of risks to service users, carers, the organisation, staff and the public.

In collaboration with service users, carers and staff, to be responsible forfacilitating and ensuring, the development and implementation of complex comprehensive care plans, advance statements etc., involving other provider agencies/ services including those from primary care,3rd sector etc where appropriate.

To lead in partnership with the Ward Manager, Medical Lead and otherallied Health Professionals. the development of a physical care trainingprogramme. To work directly with the care team in the development of service user specific care plans for the safe management and delivery of care and treatment relating to physical problem. To organise mock scenario programme for medical emergencies I.e. cardiac arrest.

Develop and maintain communication with a wide range ofpeople/services/ agencies about complex matters or in complex situationswith the purpose of sharing developing or resolving difficult or complex issues for the benefit of service users/carer and the service.
