We are looking for a Nurse ready to work at a Band 6 level and with a passion for providing a standard of care that can really change young people's lives.

  • The Unit is in a position through the South West Provider Collaborative to offer further training of which could include; DBT for Adolescents, Non-Violent Resistance, and Positive Behavioural Support, providing valuable transferable skills.
  • We can offer support in gaining clinical and management experience that looks to future career development, with training programmes delivered within AWP.

  • You will have a thorough induction into the running and life of the Unit with input into working with young people.

Main duties of the job

Supporting young people with severe and complex Mental Health difficulties through individual, group, and family settings.

Taking on the role of a clinical lead within the Unit to ensure the highest standard of care for young people.

You will oversee more junior members of the Nursing Team and assist in the maintenance and development of clinical standards, as well as .

You will work closely with the Unit MDT and support the Ward Manager in the effective running of the Unit.

As an inpatient CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) nurse, your primary responsibilities involve providing specialised care and support to children and adolescents with mental health issues who require hospitalisation. Your duties may include:

Assessment and monitoring: Conducting thorough mental health state examinations of patients upon admission and throughout their stay to understand their specific needs and concerns.

Medication administration: Administering prescribed medications and monitoring their effectiveness and potential side effects, ensuring patients receive the appropriate dosage as prescribed by the medical team.

Leadership: Being a leader to junior staff, supporting their development through positive role modelling, clinical supervision and providing a containing presence. Working closely with the ward manager to complete audits.

Care planning and implementation: Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to develop personalised care plans for each patient, which may include therapeutic interventions, risk management, and 1:1 sessions.

Crisis intervention: Managing and de-escalating crisis situations that may arise, employing appropriate techniques to ensure the safety and well-being of patients and staff.

Emotional support: Providing emotional support and a safe, empathetic environment for patients and their families during their admission.

Family involvement: Involving the patient's family in their care.

Collaborative care: Working closely with other healthcare professionals, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, family therapists and psychotherapists to ensure comprehensive and holistic care for the patients.

Documentation: Maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records and patient progress notes, ensuring proper communication within the healthcare team.

Discharge planning: Assisting in the transition of patients back to their home or community, ensuring appropriate aftercare arrangements are in place, and contingency plans.
