Job summary

We are pleased to offer an opportunity for a support worker to come and join the Team at the Daisy and make a real difference to our patient's' lives.

The position is a Band 3 Learning Disabilities and Autism Support Worker and we can offer you a comprehensive training package as well as further opportunities for professional development and career progression.

Daisy is an inpatient ward, based at Green Lane Hospital in Devizes, Wiltshire for people living with profound Learning Disabilities, Autism and Mental Health problems. A dedicated team of Registered Clinicians and Support Workers offers specialised assessment, care and rehabilitation with the goal of enabling service users to live meaningful, fulfilling and independent lives in the community. Our team is truly multi-disciplinary and includes nurses, HCSW's, a consultant, psychologists, Speech and Language Therapist and OT support.

Main duties of the job

Withinyour role you will act as an essential member of our multi-disciplinary team, delivering face to face care and working closely with others who are highly experienced in the field of Learning Disabilities and Autism.

The ward operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and the successful candidate will need to support the team who work a shift pattern that includes days, nights and weekends.We can consider flexible shift patterns/hours for exceptional candidates.

  • To undertake some aspects of care provision without direct supervision, including coordinating recreational groups and activities for service users and escorting them on recreational outings in the community.

Essential

  • Good general education
  • Possession of, or ability and willingness to undertake, an appropriate Level 3 vocational qualification (e.g. Senior Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship))
  • Food Hygiene certificate/willingness to undertake

  • Basic life support
  • Autism awareness
  • Training around understanding behaviours that challenge.

Experience & Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience or understanding of adult, children's, mental health or learning disability setting
  • Demonstrable understanding of learning disability issues and mental health

Desirable

  • Experience of working with (or enthusiasm to learn to support) people with a learning disability and autism within community or residential setting
  • Being able to demonstrate and support the service user with daily living skills e.g. laundry, making food, snacks, drinks, cleaning etc is a key role requirement
