Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic band 6 mental health practitioner to join our well established multi disciplinary CAMHS team. The post holder will be supported by experienced clinicians and a senior leadership team.

North Somerset CAMHS team is a thriving multi disciplinary that is passionate about working with young people and families.

AWP CAMHS is a busy, forward thinking CAMHS service with excellent on going CPD opportunities. The service is committed to continuous improvement and providing therapeutic interventions to children, young people and families, which are accessible, flexible and responsive. The successful candidate will be part of a stimulating and supportive multidisciplinary child and adolescent mental health team. AWP is a forward thinking and inclusive Mental Health Trust with a strong commitment to clinical supervision and professional development and staff wellbeing. AWP CAMHS has developed a rolling program me of comprehensive in house training incorporating the core CAMHS competencies framework that is open to all staff.

Main duties of the job

To work in community CAMHS as a mental health practitioner

To hold own caseload and be responsible for delivering short-term evidence based interventions from assessment to treatment through to discharge

To offer a high standard of clinical risk assessment and treatment

To liaise with relevant agencies in the delivery of care for children, young people and their families/carers

To work within a multi disciplinary team, working alongside a range of professionals - consultant psychiatrist, family therapist psychologists, nurses and allied health professionals

To be highly skilled in clinical risk assessment and management in relation to children and young people including experience of managing self-injurious behaviour. To ensure high quality provision of Child & Adolescent mental health assessment and treatment plans.

To be able to offer evidence based interventions to children, young people and families according to NICE guidance and local pathways of care.

Holding and managing a case load and using resources creatively to provide excellent intervention for children, young people and families; uniquely tailoring therapeutic interventions to meet the needs of service users .

To maintain care record, ensuring both paper and electronic records are kept up to date in accordance with professional and organisational standards.

  • RMN qualification or other relevant qualification i.e. social work, psychology, psychotherapy or IAPT postgraduate Dip.
  • Current professional registration with appropriate professional body
  • Experience of using assessment skills especially in determining the nature and severity of mental illness/health in children and young people.
  • Experience of working with young people with mental health difficulties
  • Detailed working knowledge of how specialist CAMHS are organised and operate
  • Substantial experience of assessing risk and developing risk manager strategies with young people
  • Specialist knowledge of the needs, treatment approaches and rights of children and young people

Desirable

  • Experience of working in CAMHS or equivalent mental health setting with young people
  • Experience gained in a wide variety of settings
