Job summary

Are you an Occupational therapist looking for a new challenge? If yes then we may have the post for you. An exciting new opportunity has arisen in North Somerset and we are looking for a band 7 OT to come and lead our OT team.

You will be responsible for prioritising and delegating assessments and groups with a team of OT's and OTA's. This will be working across four different inpatient wards within North Somerset. These include an acute ward working with adults of working age, a rehab unit and two older adult wards looking after functional and organic service users. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team on the Longfox site, which includes medics, Physiotherapists and Psychologists.

Our MDT team provides treatment to people whose health care needs cannot be managed in their own homes. We are looking for an experienced and HCPC registered Occupational Therapist. You will deliver Occupational Therapy service provision with a focus on maintaining persons existing occupational performance skills and abilities and addressing their identified recovery needs and goals.

Main duties of the job

To provide OT assessments and interventions. Delegate and prioritise work across the four inpatient wards thinking about staff availability and skill set. Manage and supervise band 6 and band 5 OTs and Band 3 OTA's. Form part of the MDT. Attend trust wide meetings relevant to your post.

You will be line managed by the Modern Matron of North Somerset and you will be expected to be an active and involved member of the MDT. You will be offered regular supervision, opportunities for Continued Professional Development and opportunity to contribute to further development of our services.

Be responsible for providing professional leadership and developing of high quality practice amongst occupational therapists across the inpatient wards.

Facilitate an environment that promotes the use of evidence based practice.

Ensure a robust system of professional clinical supervision is in place for all occupational therapy staff

Advise on the effective skill mix and work roles for occupational therapy staff

Ensure ongoing monitoring and evaluation of occupational therapy processes in line with best evidence available

Ensure that OT staff are aware of their professional responsibilities with regard to CPD and professional requirements, sharing knowledge and good practice.Support OT staff to access learning opportunities including training, mentoring and peer support in line with Trust and professional requirements.

Contribute to and advise on the recruitment of OT staff (or delegate where appropriate) to ensure professional expertise is utilised in relevant appointments

Ensure professional involvement in induction process for newly appointed OT staff and the implementation and completion of preceptorship for newly registered staff.

Provide professional advice as required for the effective performance management of OT staff with advice from the Trust Head of Profession.

Network with other professional leads to ensure sharing of ideas, support and innovative practice.

Maintain effective links with Trust Head of Profession to ensure effectivecommunication and dissemination of information where possible attend or delegate representation at the Trust Lead Occupational therapists meeting.

Represent a professional Occupational therapy meetings as required.

Lead on service initiatives involving Occupational Therapy relating to modernisation, governance and assurance issues

Although not a budget holder, the post holder will advise on effective use of resources including requirements for equipment and ensuring safe practice

Contribute to appraisals for occupational therapy staff and personal development plans.

Coordinate offers for fieldwork placements across the locality or delegate

Promote an evaluative approach to practice including research activities, audit, service evaluation and patient rated outcome measures.
