An exciting opportunity has arisen within the BANES RUH Acute Mental Health Hospital Liaison team to recruit a passionate, enthusiastic & forward thinking band 7 Senior Practitioner.

The AOWA Liaison team work over a 7 day week, 365 days a year, with a pattern of shifts from 8am to midnight, offering assessments from 18 years onwards. As Senior Practitioner, your core hours would be 9-5 Monday-Friday, however there would be an expectation of some flexibility depending on the need of the service & clinical acuity to work outside of these hours at times.

The team already have an established Older Adult Liaison team, and your responsibilities would including having a clinical overview of both sides of the service.

Main duties of the job

You will be participating in the provision of a responsive, needs-led mental health assessment and short-term intervention service to adults presenting to the RUH, with a range of mental health problems, with focus on self-harm assessment. There are exciting teaching & educational opportunities to provide training for the acute hospital to ensure a safe & responsive service for the RUH.

The successful candidate would be a dynamic and pro-active practitioner who would be able to thrive working in the fast paced and unpredictable general hospital environment.Preferably it would desirable if the successful candidate has an understanding of working alongside the acute general hospital, and the challenges this brings.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with excellent frontline assessment skills, who either holds a professional registration. It is important that you are comfortable with undertaking complex risk assessments and are able to make evidence based clinical decisions under pressure. There would be an expectation for you to support & develop the practitioners in the team, to promote autonomous & safe practice to the highest standard, whilst also supporting the team manager.

You should able to provide evidence of continued professional development. You will be a team player and someone who is able to show sensitivity and tact as an essential requirement, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- To provide clinical leadership, supervision, support and consultation to nursing staff and MDT staff in the team, in line with the relevant clinical pathway as outlined within the operational procedures.

- Take a clinical lead on the training and development of staff both within the team and across the wider acute hospital footprint.

- Be expected to support the band 6 practitioners in the assessment of people attending the A&E department, offering highly developed risk assessments and management plans.

- Provide a service to the wards, assessing individuals with a range of complex mental health needs.

- Deputise for the Team Manager in their absence and take on any delegated management duties as and when required.

- To oversee and deliver a range of defined activities/interventions to improve the carers ability to support the service user and to enable them in their relationship with the service user.

- To lead, in partnership with the team manager, ensuring the service develops and maintains excellent clinical standards, and effective caseload supervision, underpinned by robust and effective individual and team supervision processes.

- To oversee and ensure, across the team, there are effective risk management plans and strategies, for service users and carers, taking account of risks to service users, carers, the organisation, staff and the public.

- In collaboration with service users and carers, to be responsible, across the service for facilitating and ensuring, the development of complex comprehensive crisis plans, rapid access plans, advance statements etc, involving other agencies such as primary care etc where appropriate.

- To develop and maintain, good partnership working with other services throughout all treatment episodes, including regular liaison within Primary Health Care Team, inpatient and intensive services, day services, voluntary sector and with nominated carers/advocates.

- Develop and maintain communication with a wide range of people/services/ agencies about complex matters or in complex situations with the purpose of sharing developing or resolving difficult or complex issues for the benefit of service users/carer and the service.
