Job summary

The Therapy Team at Horizons College is looking for a skilled Physiotherapist (0.8 WTE) to work as part of an integrated NHS AWP Specialised Learning Disability Therapy Service within the Horizons College setting based in Wotton Bassett.

This unique and trail-blazing service works in collaboration with the educational setting at Horizons College to provide bespoke, integrated, and embedded therapeutic and healthcare services to young adults aged 16-25 with learning disabilities, autism, and/or profound multiple physical and learning disabilities.

You will be part of a high-quality therapy team that is committed to providing bespoke, innovative and proactive therapy as part of the college curriculum.

Main duties of the job

You will be an enthusiastic individual with excellent motivation and communicative skills.

It would be beneficial but not essential to be a clinical educator and be involved in the teaching of other disciplines.

The post is part-time, based on site at Horizons College. There will be flexibility built in to your time, to be part of the wider Specialist Learning Disability service and mainstream health and social care providers. Other than exceptional circumstances, annual leave is to be taken during Horizon College holidays (that is, not during term time), as it equitable with education staff.

To offer specialist physiotherapy assessments and interventions for students with a learning disability to support their educational goals.

Use Physiotherapy skills to treat complex musculo-skeletal and physical problems which often occur in combination with other cognitive and/or sensory disabilities, neurological conditions/problems

Maintain and improve mobility for students with physical disabilities through the assessment and support of specialist equipment e.g. wheelchairs, orthotics and other assistive technologies in order for the students to reach their education goals.

Work closely with other multi-disciplinary team members, carers and external services to enable community inclusion and promote independence through reducing reliance on paid support

Be an active member of the multi-disciplinary team and contribute appropriately to all service requirements and developments including teaching.

Ensure safe practice and adherence to Safeguarding policies and procedures

To be involved in education both of student physiotherapists and other staff in partner organisations
