Job summary

The Hope Service, within the Traumatic Stress Service offers a PTSD care pathway for Refugees and Asylum Seekers, including victims of trafficking. We are looking for a part time Clinical Psychologist (0.5WTE) to join our service, working across Bristol, S.Glos and N.Somerset.

The service provides psychological assessment and treatment for service users with a presentation of PTSD, the majority of whom are seeking asylum and living with various other complexities e.g. insecure housing, poverty and isolation.

The care pathway we deliver includes Phase 1 Stabilisation through 'Moving on After Trauma' (MOAT) groups followed by 1:1 Trauma work e.g. Trauma-focused-CBT, Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) and EMDR. A large proportion of clinical work will be via Interpreters.

  • The service works predominantly from Gloucester House, Southmead Hospital however; the role is based partly within the local community.
  • The team administration base is Petherton Resource Centre for pay and expenses purposes.
  • Staff are expected to travel to other AWP and partnership sites as part of the service delivery requirements.

The service has developed various targeted wellbeing initiatives alongside voluntary sector partners to improve mental health within local refugee and asylum seeker communities, particularly the large number of people living in 'Initial Accommodation' centres in recommissioned hotels across BNSSG.

Main duties of the job

Clinical work will include delivering Trauma therapy, facilitating Stabilisation groups and supporting ongoing research, audit and service development. We are particularly keen to build on the good working partnerships we have with local voluntary sector services.

Our service supports people with a refugee/asylum seeking background and both experience and a passion for working in this field are essential. In return we can offer the opportunity to be part of a supportive, dynamic and effective team and also opportunities to access specialist training and supervision. We would warmly welcome applications from people with lived experience. Applicants with specialist clinical experience in this field and qualifications to deliver NICE Guidance trauma work e.g. IAPT High Intensity Therapist, are invited to apply.

It is essential that the postholder has clinical experience in working with this service user group. Applications from people with lived experience are particularly welcome.
