Due to new investment as part of the Community Mental Health Framework an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic clinical psychologist who is passionate about clinical work and developing high quality mental health services.

North Somerset PTS services work across all community, acute and inpatient services within North Somerset. The service is staffed by a multidisciplinary team comprising of clinical psychologists, arts psychotherapists, family therapists and CAPs and works closely with other services in the Locality.

We are a friendly and supportive team, who are highly valued within local services. Within PTS, psychologists are professionally managed with good supervision and peer support arrangements. There is good access to CPD and the Department has strong links with local training courses.

Main duties of the job

Supported by the Head of Psychological Therapies, this is a new role providing clinical leadership to the newly formed Integrated Mental Health Team Hubs and helping to develop the service.

You will be providing leadership and training as well as delivering specialist psychological assessment and therapy, consultation and supporting IMHT staff in delivering psychological interventions under supervision.

The ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams will be essential to developing your role. You will need to be well organised with the ability to prioritise your work according to clinical need and liaise effectively with team colleagues and professionals in other agencies.

Job responsibilities

CLINICAL1. To lead and deliver a high quality and largely autonomous and systematic clinical psychology service to the IMHH in line with best practice and National guidelines.

2. In conjunction with the hub manager and clinical coordinator and the Head of Psychological Therapies to use highly specialist psychological knowledge and skills to contribute to the more effective management of patients by the IMHH and other teams in the area

3. To undertake highly specialist assessments, including neuropsychological assessment, risk assessment and assessment for suitability for specialist psychological therapies with clients and their carers (as appropriate to the role).

4. To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of clients mental health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the clients problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.

5. To be responsible for providing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers and groups, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses.

6. To provide at least one specialist evidence based psychological intervention to a small caseload of complex clients as dictated by the needs of the service

7. To provide highly specialist consultation to members of the various teams in the IMHH and beyond regarding formulation and psychological management of clients of the IMHH

8. To be involved in the development and delivery of training to multidisciplinary staff in the IMHH

9. To participate in clinical and caseload supervision arrangements provided by the Service.

10. To maintain accurate records and to monitor clinical workload using agreed systems.

11. To support the full implementation of CPA or equivalent including acting as care co-ordinator as appropriate to the needs of the service.

12. To enter data as requested by the Trust in a timely manner

PROFESSIONAL1. To fully adhere to the Policies and Procedures of the HCPC and to fully observe the BPS (2009) Code of Conduct and the DCP Generic Professional Practice Guidelines (2008).

2. To be aware of, adhere to, and where appropriate, contribute to the formulation and review of Trust, Area, Clinical Psychology policies and procedures. Copies of Trust Policies can be accessed via the staff intranet or from your manager.

3. To participate in local psychological therapy and psychology meetings and trust wide meetings as appropriate.

4. To maintain and develop high standards of clinical psychology practice by engaging in continuing professional development and co-operative working/networking with other clinical psychologists/ psychological therapists.

SERVICE GOVERNANCE1. To participate in service governance processes in the profession and in the area to maintain a safe, effective service which responds to Service User feedback.
